January 13, 2010, 7p.m.
Central Florida Astronomical Society's January general meeting features guest speaker Dr. William Barott, engineer/radio astronomer and team member on the SETI Institute’s Allen Telescope Array. Dr. Barott will describe how radio astronomy uses interferometry and the role of the new Allen Telescope Array in California at the Hat Creek Radio Observatory. He will also give a "crash course" on the methods of beam-forming and taking radio astronomy pictures, SETI science, how radio astronomy is different from optical astronomy, and how evolving technology is changing the way we think about the field. CFAS's General Meetings are FREE and open to the public, are held every second Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Seminole State College of Florida Planetarium.

A 3 hour symposium on Sunday, February 21, 2010 from 8:30 AM-11:30 AM in room 11B of the San Diego Convention Center, California
Amongst many other science-related symposiums/presentations during the meeting, it includes presentations/commemoration of landmark/historical SETI events by: Jill C. Tarter, Seth Shostak, Frank D. Drake, and Peter Backus (all of the SETI Institute), Paul Horowitz of Harvard University on OSETI, Dan Werthimer of University of California on SETI@home, Carol Oliver of University of New South Wales on SETI: Down Under and Paul Shuch of the SETI League on Privatizing the Search.
